U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructors, Staff Sgt. Marina BurruelDelacruz and Staff Sgt. Perry Clayton, both with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, are awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, Dec. 13, 2024. A NAM is given to members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for meritorious service or achievement. BurruelDelacruz and Clayton received a NAM for exemplifying unrivaled courage and extraordinary presence of mind when confronting a life-threatening emergency. The words “drill instructor, drill instructor, drill instructor” were called and BurruelDelacruz and Clayton sprang into action to save a fourteen-month-old infant who was unconscious and not breathing. Providing CPR and proper throat sweeping techniques they successfully dislodged the obstruction and the infant regained consciousness. Likely saving baby Aisla’s life. The family of the infant was onsite during the ceremony and presented the awards. The Marine Corps has served the Nation honorably for 250 years. U.S. Marine Corps drill instructors with Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, receive impact Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals for completing a training cycle with zero recruit drops at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, Oct. 31, 2024. The new Marines of Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, Oct. 18, 2024. Graduation took place at the completion of the 13-week transformation which included training for drill, marksmanship, basic combat skills, and Marines Corps customs and traditions. Following graduation, the Marines were given 10 days of leave before taking the next step in training at the School of Infantry at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
